Applications are now open for the United States Diversity Immigrant Visa Program DV-2024. Here’s how it works:

TheโฏDepartment of Stateโฏย annuallyโฏadministers theโฏstatutorilyโฏcreatedโฏDiversity Immigrant Visa Program.โฏ Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provides for a class of immigrants known as โdiversity immigrantsโ from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.โฏ ForโฏFiscal Yearโฏ2024,โฏup toโฏ55,000โฏDiversity Visasโฏ(DVs)โฏwill be available.โฏโฏThere is no costโฏto register for the DVโฏprogram.
Requirements for United States Diversity Immigrant Visa Program DV-2024
- Applicants who are selected in theโฏprogramโฏ(selectees)โฏmust meetโฏsimple but strict eligibility requirementsโฏto qualify for aโฏDV.โฏโฏThe Department of State determinesโฏselecteesโฏthroughโฏaโฏrandomized computer drawing.
- โฏThe Department of State distributes diversity visas among six geographic regions,โฏand no single country may receive more thanโฏsevenโฏpercent of the available DVs in any one year.
For DV-2024,โฏnatives ofโฏthe following countries and areas are not eligible to apply,โฏbecause more than 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five years:โฏ
Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong KongโฏSAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti,โฏHonduras,โฏIndia, Jamaica, Mexico,โฏNigeria,โฏPakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea (South Korea), United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories,โฏVenezuela,โฏand Vietnam.โฏ Natives ofโฏMacau SAR and Taiwan are eligible.
Eligibility for United States Diversity Immigrant Visa Program DV-2024
Requirement #1:โฏโฏNatives ofโฏcountriesโฏwith historically low rates of immigration to the United States may be eligible to enter.
- If youโฏare not a native ofโฏaโฏcountryโฏwith historically low rates of immigration to the United States, there are two other ways youโฏmightโฏbe able to qualify.
- Isโฏyour spouseโฏa native ofโฏa countryโฏwith historically low rates of immigration to the United States?โฏ If yes, you can claim your spouseโs
- country of birthโฏโโฏprovided that you and your spouse areโฏnamedโฏon the selected entry, areโฏfound eligible andโฏissuedโฏdiversityโฏvisas, and enter the United Statesโฏat the same time.
- Are you a native ofโฏa countryโฏthat doesโฏnotโฏhave historically low rates of immigration to the United States, butโฏin whichโฏneither of your parents was born orโฏlegally residentโฏat the time of your birth?โฏ If yes, you may claimโฏthe country of birth ofโฏone of your parents if it is a country whose nativesโฏare eligibleโฏfor the DV-2024 program.
Requirement #2:โฏโฏ
EachโฏDVโฏapplicant must meetโฏthe education/work experience requirement of the DV programโฏby havingโฏeither:
- at least aโฏhigh school education or its equivalent, defined as successful completion of a 12-year course ofโฏformalโฏelementary and secondary
education;โฏโฏOR - two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupationโฏthat requiresโฏat least two years of training or experience to perform.โฏ TheโฏDepartment of State will use theโฏU.S. Department of LaborโsโฏO*Net Onlineโฏdatabase to determine qualifying work experience.
