United States Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV-2024): Live and Work in the United States of America.

Applications are now open for the United States Diversity Immigrant Visa Program DV-2024. Here’s how it works:

Theโ€ฏDepartment of Stateโ€ฏย annuallyโ€ฏadministers theโ€ฏstatutorilyโ€ฏcreatedโ€ฏDiversity Immigrant Visa Program.โ€ฏ Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provides for a class of immigrants known as โ€œdiversity immigrantsโ€ from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.โ€ฏ Forโ€ฏFiscal Yearโ€ฏ2024,โ€ฏup toโ€ฏ55,000โ€ฏDiversity Visasโ€ฏ(DVs)โ€ฏwill be available.โ€ฏโ€ฏThere is no costโ€ฏto register for the DVโ€ฏprogram.

Requirements for United States Diversity Immigrant Visa Program DV-2024
  • Applicants who are selected in theโ€ฏprogramโ€ฏ(selectees)โ€ฏmust meetโ€ฏsimple but strict eligibility requirementsโ€ฏto qualify for aโ€ฏDV.โ€ฏโ€ฏThe Department of State determinesโ€ฏselecteesโ€ฏthroughโ€ฏaโ€ฏrandomized computer drawing.
  • โ€ฏThe Department of State distributes diversity visas among six geographic regions,โ€ฏand no single country may receive more thanโ€ฏsevenโ€ฏpercent of the available DVs in any one year.

For DV-2024,โ€ฏnatives ofโ€ฏthe following countries and areas are not eligible to apply,โ€ฏbecause more than 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five years:โ€ฏ

Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kongโ€ฏSAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti,โ€ฏHonduras,โ€ฏIndia, Jamaica, Mexico,โ€ฏNigeria,โ€ฏPakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea (South Korea), United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories,โ€ฏVenezuela,โ€ฏand Vietnam.โ€ฏ Natives ofโ€ฏMacau SAR and Taiwan are eligible.

Eligibility for United States Diversity Immigrant Visa Program DV-2024

Requirement #1:โ€ฏโ€ฏNatives ofโ€ฏcountriesโ€ฏwith historically low rates of immigration to the United States may be eligible to enter.

  • If youโ€ฏare not a native ofโ€ฏaโ€ฏcountryโ€ฏwith historically low rates of immigration to the United States, there are two other ways youโ€ฏmightโ€ฏbe able to qualify.
  • Isโ€ฏyour spouseโ€ฏa native ofโ€ฏa countryโ€ฏwith historically low rates of immigration to the United States?โ€ฏ If yes, you can claim your spouseโ€™s
  • country of birthโ€ฏโ€“โ€ฏprovided that you and your spouse areโ€ฏnamedโ€ฏon the selected entry, areโ€ฏfound eligible andโ€ฏissuedโ€ฏdiversityโ€ฏvisas, and enter the United Statesโ€ฏat the same time.
  • Are you a native ofโ€ฏa countryโ€ฏthat doesโ€ฏnotโ€ฏhave historically low rates of immigration to the United States, butโ€ฏin whichโ€ฏneither of your parents was born orโ€ฏlegally residentโ€ฏat the time of your birth?โ€ฏ If yes, you may claimโ€ฏthe country of birth ofโ€ฏone of your parents if it is a country whose nativesโ€ฏare eligibleโ€ฏfor the DV-2024 program.

Requirement #2:โ€ฏโ€ฏ

Eachโ€ฏDVโ€ฏapplicant must meetโ€ฏthe education/work experience requirement of the DV programโ€ฏby havingโ€ฏeither:

  • at least aโ€ฏhigh school education or its equivalent, defined as successful completion of a 12-year course ofโ€ฏformalโ€ฏelementary and secondary
    education;โ€ฏโ€ฏOR
  • two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupationโ€ฏthat requiresโ€ฏat least two years of training or experience to perform.โ€ฏ Theโ€ฏDepartment of State will use theโ€ฏU.S. Department of Laborโ€™sโ€ฏO*Net Onlineโ€ฏdatabase to determine qualifying work experience.
