Applications are open for the ClimateTracker Mentoring Programme in Climate Journalism 2022.
Train yourself as a climate journalist, while also receiving funding for publishing stories about climate change and energy transition that need to be told in Latin America.
From October 2022 to early January 2023 ClimateTracker will welcome a cohort of three journalists eager to produce climate stories and learn in the process. During this period, each journalist will receive a financial incentive for each story and tutorials from a team of mentors, while they work on group trainings to strengthen their knowledge about presenting stories about climate change.
ClimateTracker will challenge each fellow to experiment with and use new techniques, formats and media platforms to tell their stories. In addition, those selected will also have the opportunity to network.
Benefits
The programme contemplates collective and personalized learning in relevant aspects of climate journalism and the just energy transition for Latin America and the Caribbean.
If selected, you will be challenged and supported to post stories and participate in newsletters, podcasts and/or social media content creation. In addition, your stories will be shared and promoted through ClimateTracker channels and networks.
Specifically, the programme includes:
- Economic incentive of 600 euros (200 for each story published).
- Group training sessions on energy transition, climate crisis and environmental journalism.
- Editorial accompaniment and personalized tutorials so that your reports stand out from the rest and you manage to create a quality product.
- Espacio of publication and opportunity to expand the journalistic portfolio. In addition to publishing your reports on the Climate Tracker Latin America website, they will share them with their network of allied media in the region, so that your work has greater projection and visibility.
In other words, this is a great opportunity to hone your skills as a journalist, expand your networks, and gain a space at the source of climate change and the environment.
Eligibility
They encourage journalists from any country in Latin America to participate in this edition.
Ideal candidates will have:
- At least one year of journalism experience
- Proven interest in environmental and climate issues
- A great proposal of journalistic history to tell
- Curiosity and commitment: this is a learning experience that we hope you make the most of

To apply you have to fill out the form before September 19 with your data and submit a proposal (pitch) of original story to be developed during the Mentoring programme in Climate Journalism.
