Call for Applications: 2026 Zayed Sustainability Prize in The UAE  The Zayed Sustainability Prize is the UAE’s pioneering global award that recognises and rewards small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), nonprofit organisations (NPOs), and global high schools with impactful, innovative, and inspiring sustainable solutions. The Purpose of this program is to recognize the efforts and honor the Leaders for their innovative, inspiring, and groundbreaking contributions to a sustainable future. The Prize honours the humanitarian and sustainability legacy of the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. To date, we have awarded 128 winners and through them we have transformed the lives of over 400 million people. The Initiative seeks African-based researchers to study current data governance trends and identify policy recommendations. Under the Data Governance in Africa Initiative, Mozilla Foundation and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) African Union collaborate to increase awareness on and support the domestication of the African Union Data Policy Framework through the Data Governance in Africa Research Fund. Researchers will be supported with USD10,000 to conduct an empirical study proposed according to their expertise. Researchers are also expected to be a part of a regional strategy to distribute and share the findings and recommendations of the research to different stakeholder groups, particularly policy influence makers in the focus countries or regions of their study. Be individuals, networks, and/or organizations that are based in Africa Be legally able to receive funds in the form of grants from the Mozilla Foundation, a U.S. 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Selection Criterias for the 2025 Data Governance in Africa Research Fund Grantees will be selected based on a review of applications by by Mozilla’s grantmaking team. The criteria for reviewing applications will consider the following: Geographic location and work focus of applicants Applicant experience in the internet, AI and digital technology sector in Africa Applicant familiarity with national or regional contexts, clear articulation of the data justice issue Clearly defined methodology and impact, research plan, and budget Only those projects that meet the grant criteria for this funding opportunity will be reviewed. Call for Nominations: 2025 TWAS-Samira Omar Innovation for Sustainability Award Applications are open for the 2025 TWAS-Samira Omar Innovation for Sustainability Award. TWAS is inviting nominations for the 2025 Award from all its members as well as science academies, national research councils, universities and scientific institutions in developing and developed countries. Program Summary Type: Award Sponsor: The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Value: $4,000 Eligible Countries: Least Developing Country Deadline: March 14, 2025 Eligibility Criterias for the 2025 TWAS-Samira Omar Innovation for Sustainability Award The 2025 award will be awarded to a scientist national of a Least Developing Country (LDC), living and working in a LDC during the last two years immediately prior to his/her nomination, based on scientific achievements in any of the thematic areas below: Clean and renewable energy Green chemistry Sustainable agriculture and agrobiodiversity Plastic: degradation, pollution and microplastics Water purification and sanitation Climate change: environmental effects, methane contribution, carbon capture Transportation technologies: efficiency for smart cities Waste management Biodiversity: the sixth mass extinction, ecosystem services, habitat recovery and restoration Ecological economics and planetary health Every two years the award is aimed exclusively at women scientists. Benefits This annual award, named after the TWAS Fellow Samira Omar, recognizes the significant impact on the environment and biodiversity of scientists from least developed countries, with a monetary award of $4,000 generously provided by Professor Omar. A nomination is considered complete only if includes all of the following information/material: Nominator contact details. Nominee contact details (self nominations are not accepted) and general information on the nominee. Authorization from the nominee (i.e. the candidate) to process personal data for the purposes of the nomination, in conformity to Art. 13 of the Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003. This authorization can only be submitted through the online platform. The privacy authorization form is available for download in the section ‘nominee’s personal data. The form must be filled in and signed by the candidate and then uploaded onto the on-line platform. Suggested citation (15-20 words highlighting the nominee’s scientific achievements); Supporting statement regarding the nominee’s contribution. Supporting statements should explain in detail the work performed by the candidate and its significance in the relevant scientific context. Clear reference should be made to the scientific impact of the nominee’s work. Vague supporting statements will not be considered and will negatively affect the evaluation. Clear and detailed account of any time spent abroad by the nominee in the past two years. PhD: information on subject area, year and awarding institution. Brief information on membership in academies and societies. Brief information on awards and honours received. List of 10 most significant publications listed in an internationally acceptable format.
