CheckDesks Fellowships 2025 by CfA (Code for Africa) in West Africa The Code for Africa (CfA), through its flagship network, the African Fact-Checking Alliance (AFCA), is offering a seven-month incubation program to established media organizations or watchdog civil society organizations (CSOs) based in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal to help them set up or expand CheckDesks. A CheckDesk is a dedicated fact-checking/verification unit within a news organization or CSO that uses the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) compliant techniques to research and debunk misleading or harmful information. The fellowships are part of the project ‘Strengthening Resilient Information Ecosystems in Africa,’ an initiative co-financed by the European Union, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) in cooperation with diverse partners, including Code for Africa (CfA) and DW Akademie. The initiative seeks to strengthen the capacity of local media and watchdog organizations to expose, dismantle, and destabilize disinformation networks. It will also promote information integrity through the digitization of credible sources and supporting influencers to counter online manipulation. UN Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship 2025 for Developing Countries  The Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship was mandated in December 1980 by United Nations (UN) General Assembly Resolution 35/201. Formerly known as the DPI Training Programme for Broadcasters and Journalists from Developing Countries, the programme was renamed in 2003 in honor of Reham Al-Farra, a 29-year-old Jordanian UN Public Information Officer who was killed in the 19 August 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad. The fellowship is a unique opportunity for young working journalists (between the ages of 22-35 from developing countries and countries with economies in transition to cover the UN. Hosted every autumn by the UN, the program enables this select group of journalists to learn first-hand about the UN’s work and to cover the General Assembly for their news outlets.
