The IMF Fund Internship Program (FIP)ย provides an opportunity for Doctoral students to gain an insider experience of the integrated, member country focused, mandate and work of the IMF.

Are you looking for an exciting and challenging internship at a prestigious, international financial institution? Are youย within a year or two of completing your PhD inย economics or a related field or completing a Masterโ€™s degree in economics?

The International Monetary Fundโ€™s (IMF) Internship Program (FIP)ย may be the right opportunity for you!

Benefits
  • Successfulย applicants will undertakeย a 10-12 week paid internship between June and October 2023. The precise dates of the internshipย will beย agreed between theย intern and IMF supervisor at time of offer. The internship will be in-person located at the IMF headquarters in Washington DC.
  • Under the guidance of an experienced IMF colleague,ย you will conduct research and analysis on a topicย determinedย by the Fund. Your workย may culminate in a research paper, and may be published internally.
Requirements

To compete for the FIP, at a minimumย you must meet the following criteria:

PhD students

  • Be within one to two years ofย completing a PhD in macroeconomics or a related field.
  • Be in student status at the time of the internship (i.e.ย continuing PhD studiesย after the internship).
  • Be below the age of 32 at the commencement of the internship.
  • Have an excellent command of English, written and oral.
  • Possess strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills.

Masterโ€™s students

  • Completing a Masterโ€™s degree in macroeconomics or a related field.
  • Below the age of 28 at the commencement of the internship.
  • Have an excellent command of English, written and oral.
  • Possess strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills.
Visa

If you are not a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S., and do not have anotherย work authorization that would allow you to work at the IMF, you will need a G4 visa. We will provide the paperwork necessary to facilitate your G4 visa request withย U.S. authoritie
